Tom Challenger
Tom Challenger is the exceptional Marsden-born saxophonist who has performed exclusive new music across Marsden Moor for our second episode of Chronotope: Music in a Different Time and Place.
Taking place in iconic locations across the moorland such as Thieves Clough Bridge, Redbrook Pump House and Worlow Quarry, Tom’s performances explore the ancient transport routes across Marsden from Roman roads, to packhorse tracks, to a 21st century Internet cable! The result is a juxtaposition of modern and historical through a combination of film and sound.
Tom said the following about his performances:
“I will combine improvised and composed elements in each location. In preparation for these performances, I have created graphic scores inspired by the natural and human-made features of the local landscape. I have placed and collaged lines and curves particular to each location in the three scores.”
