Plans for the thirtieth Marsden Jazz Festival!

Plans for the thirtieth Marsden Jazz Festival!

Planning is well and truly under way for the thirtieth(!) Marsden Jazz Festival on 7-9 October 2022.

In 2021, incredible one-off financial support from Arts Council England and the Government’s Cultural Recovery Fund enabled us to realise our dream of sharing a world-class live music programme on an outdoor stage right in the heart of Marsden on Peel Street.

As we return with our 30th festival, we look to the future with the thought of ensuring that the Marsden Jazz Festival is sustainable within the financial resources available to us and can thrive for another thirty years as one of the most-loved and longest running jazz festivals in the United Kingdom.

There is a long-established tradition of Marsden venues promoting independent events alongside Marsden Jazz Festival. We were excited to see the new Marsden Fringe Festival appear in 2021, and we hope that it will continue to grow and thrive. It was fantastic to see that so many businesses and community organisations ran an abundance of successful fringe events complementary to Marsden Jazz Festival and that these were enjoyed by thousands of visitors coming to the village for our festival weekend.

We are waiting to hear if we have successfully secured financial support from our biggest funder, Arts Council England, for our 2022 festival. If we get the funding, we have in the pipeline a range of free and ticketed events, representing a top quality and exciting programme that speaks to all sections of our community.

If we’re successful in our bid and the festival goes ahead, our work in 2022 will include:

  • Three days of world-class ticketed gigs in Mechanics Hall and St Bartholomew’s Church
  • Jazz Parade (that’s right, the much-loved parade is coming back!)
  • Market in the Park and the Bandstand
  • Wessen Court Marquee – a new youth and community stage
  • Street Food Alley next to St Bartholomew’s Church
  • Festival infrastructure, including toilet facilities, official parking and road safety
  • Local, regional and national festival publicity
  • Professional festival management
  • Dozens of enthusiastic volunteers look after Marsden visitors and keep our streets clean and tidy

Finally, thank you for your continued support and enthusiasm. We look forward to welcoming you back to Marsden Jazz Festival for our 30th year fiesta in October! There’ll be more announcements in the next couple of months so stay tuned…
